Pinnacle Engineering’s expertise as a renewable energy consultant enables producers to effectively navigate the complex environmental landscape and achieve their sustainability goals. With a strong presence in the renewable energy industry since 1999, we have grown alongside the sector, supporting ethanol operations and other renewable fuels projects.
Our services extend beyond new projects, as we work with existing renewable energy plants to help them reduce their carbon footprint and implement sustainable practices that impact air, water, and other environmental aspects.
Our goal is to continue to build upon our reputation of delivering high-quality services, maintaining open and responsive communications, and providing cost-effective solutions that consistently meet our client’s needs.
Environmental Engineering for Renewable Fuels Facilities
As a provider of turnkey renewable fuels engineering services, we support you through pre-engineering, construction, and facility modifications. Our environmental engineering expertise spans all areas of regulatory compliance to support producers of ethanol, biofuels, RNG, biogas, biodiesel, renewable diesel, Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), and renewable naphtha. Together with your internal team, we proactively identify and mitigate risks, ensuring you meet compliance throughout project planning and beyond.
Air permitting is a fundamental requirement for any renewable energy project. Whether you are established and seeking ongoing compliance support or are new to the industry and need engineering support, we adapt our services to meet your specific needs. We consult on emissions monitoring, mitigation and modeling, large Part 70 (Title V) operating permits, state-level air quality operating and construction permits, and compliance reporting.
Water management is critical for any renewable fuels site, whether it’s a greenfield site or a facility under construction or modification. Service areas include contamination prevention and release, remediation, groundwater services, hydrogeology and hydrologic assessments, water/stormwater management and discharge, regulation and compliance, and water usage and sustainability.
Asset evaluations play a crucial role in the renewable energy industry. We assist our clients in developing and implementing active mechanical integrity programs to ensure equipment reliability and minimize failures. Our team can perform testing, interpret results, and help design routine testing programs to ensure ongoing asset integrity.
Our CCS for renewable fuels facilities keeps you in compliance with air emissions deviation and compliance reporting, emission inventory reporting, wastewater sampling reports, stormwater annual reports, Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) Tier II reports, Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) Reporting, Air Emissions Reporting, and more.
Environmental due diligence is critical in the early stages of project planning and engineering. From the property’s historical use to the presence of wetlands and/or threatened & endangered species, environmental due diligence must be thorough and accurate.
If the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and/or state Environmental Review requirements are triggered for a renewable fuels project, identifying these environmental matters early stages in site selection and engineering is vitally important. Our experts in NEPA compliance and Environmental Review work with your development and engineering teams to ensure your project’s environmental matters are properly identified and addressed.
Our team of experts is well-versed in navigating the complex regulatory landscape to secure air, water, waste, and environmental permits. Our analysis and due diligence team conducts all applicable assessments, identifies environmental permits relevant to your project, reviews submission requirements, and determines when applications must be submitted based on your project timeline.
FEL stage 1/2 services include Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments, wetland delineation, cultural and historical field surveys, T&E species habitat surveys, and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) planning and scoping.
Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Programs (RMP) help the renewable energy industry ensure employee safety on-site and prevent industrial accidents. Our team develops programs in compliance with all regulatory requirements, including the application of the 14 elements of OSHA process safety standards.
Services in this area include program consultations and scope development, PSM/RMP plan audits, Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) facilitation, and implementation support and consulting.
All renewable energy facilities manufacturing Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) regulated fuels must comply with greenhouse emissions and registration regulations. Our engineers provide renewable fuels engineering services, including pathway registration and carbon intensity and sustainability consulting. This includes IRS tax credit verification for clean energy production under 45Q, 45V, and 45Z.
Pinnacle’s drone program focuses on rapidly collecting precise and accurate georeferenced data. With this wealth of data, we construct a “Common Operating Picture” that provides a holistic view of a site. Survey work, remote site monitoring, time-lapse imagery, topographical mapping, and emergency response.
Our response team is available 24/7 to tackle large and small-scale emergencies and develop a common operating picture within hours of a response. In addition to response, we provide cleanup support and regulatory representation. In the case of leaks, spills, or historical contamination, our environmental services team identifies the source, defines the scope, and implements cleanup to restore the site.
Services include bioremediation, environmental assessments and forensics, permitting and reporting, site investigations and testing, and third-party and due diligence reviews. We employ innovative approaches such as bioremediation and natural methods whenever possible to restore the site to its optimal condition.
