Water Resources

Water is one of the world’s most precious natural resources. Proper management of it allows us to live with it, not against it.

Pinnacle assists with a variety of water resource management issues. With experts in the fields of ecology, geology, conservation, and engineering, we prepare water resource management plans, and municipal master plans in addition to helping our clients implement the improvements and enhancements identified in these plans. Throughout the project, costs are reviewed to keep within budgets and issues are resolved in a timely manner as plans are implemented.

Partnering with Pinnacle ensures the expertise and assistance needed to remain a front-runner with your technical and environmental needs.

Hydrologic/Hydrogeologic Engineering

Hydraulic and hydrologic engineers work to prevent floods, to supply water for cities, industry and irrigation, to treat wastewater, to protect beaches, and to manage and redirect rivers. At Pinnacle, our specific applications involve water supply and water treatment in industrial/manufacturing environments. Our engineering team provides assessment, analysis and design services in applications involving the flow implications for water quality, and the transport of sediment, nutrients, and pollutants in natural or engineered watercourses.

With the increased emphasis placed on renewable energy, Pinnacle’s engineering services have evolved into areas specific to Ethanol production. A comprehensive review of water resources is critical to the evaluation of a property earmarked for plant development. Once a project site is selected and project development moves forward, Pinnacle provides support for the required permits.

Pinnacle's Hydrologic/Hydrogeologic Engineering services:
  • Regional Flow Analysis
  • Water Supply Source Analyses
  • Aquifer Response/Pump Testing
  • Well Siting and Design
  • Wellhead Protection Analysis
  • Water Quality Analysis
  • Permitting Application and Support
    • Industrial Discharge Permitting
    • Construction and Industrial Stormwater Permitting
    • State Waterbody and Wetland Permitting
    • Water Appropriations Permitting

Dredging

Dredging is the removal of bottom material from lakes, rivers, harbors, and water treatment settling ponds. Dredging is done for a number of reasons; to increase water depth to permit the passage of ships and barges, to increase the capacity of water storage reservoirs, to rebuild beaches, and to remove sludge from water treatment ponds. Pinnacle has assisted city, county and water management organizations in the dredging of rivers, lakes and harbors. Some dredging projects are linked to complex development projects requiring the expertise of a multi-disciplined engineering team. At Pinnacle, we provide just that. With experts in the fields of ecology, geology, conservation, and environmental and geotechnical engineering, Pinnacle provides the knowledge to manage all aspects of the project, from the initial site assessment on through the development phase.

Pinnacle’s Dredging services:
  • Wetlands Evaluation
  • Wetlands Delineation
  • Wetland Mitigation
  • Permitting (DNR, Army Corp of Engineers, and MPCA documentation)
  • Sediment Surveys
  • Environmental Assessments
  • Engineering Design
  • Dredge Spoils Disposal/Reuse

Storm Water/Surface Water Management

Because the serenity of water can increase real property values and enhance the quality of life, beautification of land areas adjacent to waterways and water treatment ponds is considered an integral part of planning by developers.

A practice becoming more prevalent with commercial and residential development is to locate developments around man-made ponds, lakes, or wetlands created for water treatment, flood control, and to reduce the impacts of urban runoff on neighboring natural streams, lakes, or coastal areas. When designed and sited correctly, artificial lakes or wetlands can help developers reduce negative environmental impacts caused by the development process and increase the value of the property. Pinnacle engineers incorporate storm water/surface water management controls into a development in a way that provides aesthetic and economic benefits while providing rate control and runoff treatment. Urban runoff controls that are pleasing to the eye and safe for children can lead to increased property values.

Pinnacle’s Storm/Surface Water Management services:
  • Flood and Erosion Control
